But it’s not all sad, and it’s probably not what you’re thinking either…
First of all, let’s take a little trip down Memory Lane together.
It was May 2012 when I went for what I thought was an interview for a casual position at a cute little shop called Meg + Me. It wasn’t long into the “interview” that I realised that I had been identified as the potential new owner of the Business… so after I didn’t “get the job” but instead agreed to purchase the business, I was the proud new owner of Meg + Me. That was 1 July 2012.
Since then I have grown and learned, adapted and pivoted, matured and thrived.
But there’s one thing that has never quite sat right with me.
The business name.
While it was cute and served its purpose at the time, that time has passed.
We are stepping into a new era for our Business. One that reflects the journey we’ve been on and the vision we have for the future of our business. So, it’s time for us to adopt a new name, one that means something to us, but also to our ever expanding Community.
And while I won’t be sharing our new name with you just yet, you’ll have to wait a few weeks for the “Big Reveal,” what I can say is that the process of creating your own identity is such a valuable thing to do, both on a personal level, but also for your business and community.
For me, running a small business is all about the ability to create and curate something so unique and so personal to us, all the while considering those who visit us and join us both as customers and friends. We’ve worked extremely hard to build long lasting relationships with customers who have become friends, and for us, that is what our small business is all about.
It’s a big thing though to make changes to such an established business. It’s not a decision we made lightly. What about the tourists that visit only once a year and might think it’s “not us” anymore? What about our regulars who have known and loved us as Meg + Me for the past 13 years? What about the people who think my name is Meg? (Well, they’re in for a shock!)
But more importantly, what about… Us?
That’s ultimately what it came down to. Changing our business name is about US and what we have created. It’s a final step in taking ownership of the business that in every aspect other than the current name, reflects Us and our vision. So it’s time. I can’t wait to share it with you soon.
That news aside, it feels like town has completely emerged from its winter hibernation, with more events attracting locals and visitors alike. The town is abuzz with visitors each weekend and we are loving it!
It’s always pleasing to speak with visitors who rave about the place we are lucky enough to call home. “Your beaches are amazing!” “There are so many fabulous places to eat here” “We love going to the Glasshouse” “You guys have the best coffee in town” (I particularly like that one!) are just some of the rave reviews I hear on rotation when people visit town either as a midway point or the final destination.
It’s true, we’ve got a lot to offer and it’s only getting better. There are small business popping up, small businesses getting bigger and better and of course our beaches and natural attractions are always a hit with locals and visitors alike.
For us, while we are busily prepping for the holiday/festive season ahead (as well as juggling an entire rebrand) we are excitedly looking forward to the rush to the end of 2025 and the buzz that ensues around town each summer.
We’re looking forward to seeing friends and customers that we only see once a year, seeing how their kids have grown, what’s happened in their families since we saw them last, and what exciting things everyone has planned for 2026.
So here’s to new beginnings, and a future that is bright for all of us.
